Starfield beginner's guide: what to do in your first 10 hours
Objective
Skill priorities, ship upgrades, outpost basics, and the systems worth learning first.

- 1
Prioritise Piloting and Security skills early. Piloting unlocks better ship manoeuvring; Security lets you crack the locks that guard the best loot.
- 2
Don't try to build outposts in your first 10 hours. They're resource-hungry and the tutorial is thin. Focus on missions and ship combat first.
- 3
Sell everything you don't need. Weight management in Starfield is brutal — your ship's cargo hold is your best friend.
- 4
Join the Vanguard early. The UC Vanguard questline gives you a solid ship, good credits, and introduces you to ship combat in a structured way.
- 5
Scan everything. Surveying planets is slow but it's the most reliable early-game income and it teaches you the map systems.
